Alluring Turmoil

by Skye Turner

Jude Delecroix

Alexia Sloane is the twenty-six year old owner of the highly successful Louisiana coffee shop/bakery, Java and Sweeties. The past couple of years have been all she’s dreamed of and her business takes all of her focus, all of her heart.

Jude Delecroix is the lead singer of one of the most famous rock bands in the country, Bayou Stix, and the man who broke Lexi’s heart.

Lexi and Jude have a past.

When Jude comes back to town eight years after leaving to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a famous musician and comes face to face with Lexi, forces collide, old hurts are brought to the surface, and life as these two have been living it will never be the same.

There are two sides to every story, and what happens when the things you believed to be concrete suddenly crumble like ash and fade away?

What happens when two people afraid to face the past, become involved in the present? Can they hope for a future?

Welcome to Louisiana where humidity and passion are high and things are not always what they seem.

Review by Brittany

This debut novel by Skye Turner is a great start for this author. I have no doubt that with each novel she publishes, her writing will improve. While the writing style was flawless, I believe that the characters were very weak and not consistent with how I thought they should be.

Alexia Sloane was left broken hearted eight years ago when she walked in on a devastating misunderstanding. Leaving her boyfriend without a backwards glance, she’s been living life as the shell of who she used to be.

When her old flame, Jude Delecroix, walks into her shop one day, she is saddened by the hate she sees in his eyes. Determined to keep on going, she pushes him out of her mind, focusing on her coffee shop.            Jude Delecroix, rockstar bad boy, is still in love with Alexia Sloane. He never stopped. Pushing his fame aside, he decides that he is going to get her back, and what Jude wants, Jude gets.

Overall, I give this novel three and a half stars. The grammar was terrific, there were no mistakes that I could see, at least. I feel as if the characters didn’t stay true to themselves. For a rockstar, Jude is too soft. I was confused to whether or not he was supposed to be the tough, bad boy rocker that I thought was the norm. At points he’d be stuttering and blushing, at others he’d be asserting his dominance to everyone in the room.

The characters also seemed to ramble on when speaking, and also when thinking. I believe their points could have been made in just a sentence or two, when it really took a paragraph.

There never really seemed to be a high point in this novel, either. I believe that Jude and Lexi could have had some really big moments, but were cheated out of a chance to shine.

I give points to Skye for creating a couple that I could see existing today. I never see that in any of the novels I read. I can imagine going to a concert and seeing Jude sing for Lexi. I can imagine Jude and Lexi being my best friends. They seem real, and I enjoyed that.

This is a great start for Skye. I believe she can really become the writer I know she is trying to be. I’m looking forward to reading the next novel, Alluring Seduction, which is about Jude’s band mate. Congratulations on a wonderful debut novel, Skye!
