Who He Is

by SQ Williams

Gage Grendel

Eliza Smith has never been the one to seek a relationship. She’s never dated a guy in her life, never even hugged a man (outside of her father/manager of the hot and popular rock band, FireNine) but when she decides to spend her summer on tour with FireNine, it all changes. Eliza really gets to meet Gage Grendel - her former crush from high school and the lead singer of FireNine - and witness sides to him to which she’ll begin to truly despise.

She’ll ignore him, she’ll dislike his ways, she’ll do anything to try and stay away from him until Gage finally gets her to slip up and give in. She agrees on a casual fling with Gage, but soon they’ll both see how the fling will blur into something they can’t control and when it’s finally time for Eliza to go and accomplish her own dreams, she’ll know there’s more she took from Gage than she ever thought possible.

Brittany's Review

She was a single dove, a beauty,

    A miraculous love, truly,

A new addiction I’d fight for,

My addiction, perhaps my heart and more.

Shanora Williams blew me away with this novel. This chick has some serious writing talent. In the first installment of the FireNine Series, she introduces us to the FireNine boys, Gage Grendel, Montana Delray, Dedrick Parsley, and Roy Sykes.

Eliza Smith lives with her father, the manager of the new hit band, FireNine. When a last minute tour comes up, Eliza is asked to go along. Eliza doesn’t want anything to do with the band, least of all its lead singer, Gage Grendel. With the promise of her own bus, she grudgingly agrees to tag along.

“Gage Grendel… hot, mouthwatering, and way out of my league… He’d created a freaking ice cream sundae just by uttering my name.”

When the boys’ bus breaks down and they are forced to stay on Eliza’s bus, she is determined to fight the spell that Gage casts upon every woman he meets. Slowly, but surely, a passionate romance develops between the two, but one of them wants more.

“You’re someone who I can tell doesn’t trust easily. Love easily. Fall easily. Someone who knows how to step away from stupidity and nonsense instead of lingering around it. You’re the kind of person who knows she deserves it all because you’re strong, knowledgeable, and mature for your age. I find it nice, really.”

This lady can write. I fell in love with this novel from the very first page. She has depth to her characters; they’re not artificial, looking for only one thing. Her characters have pasts that affect them today. They have emotions, feelings, ideas and futures. They know what they want, but they also know what they need.

The ending of this was definitely an ugly cry. I was not expecting this from Shanora. She can write! She made me feel, made me hurt for these characters. I was invested in their story and I felt as if I was physically there, watching the story unfold. I love that!

Five stars for this young author. I love the FireNine boys and their stories. I love Gage and Ellie. I was so happy when she announced a sequeul to Who He Is, Who We Are, which is out now!
